The Pogues: Rainy Night In Soho

Dear Willie Nelson,
Please sing Rainy Night In Soho by The Pogues. It is a beautiful song with a great melody. Shane MacGowan is a great songwriter and I feel you could do a great job singing some of his songs. Rainy Night In Soho in particular has a great melody and plenty of room for your guitar and Mickey's harmonica.
Thank you.

Soul Asylum: Closer To The Stars

Dear Willie Nelson,
Please sing Closer To The Stars by Soul Asylum. Although they have plenty of other great material, Closer To The Stars is a well written song that I think you could do a great version of. Although it may sound a little on the loud/fast side on first listen, you could slow it down a bit and work with the melody on your guitar. The song should adapt well to your particular style.
Thank you.

Dennis Brown and John Holt: Wildfire

Dear Willie Nelson,
Wildfire by Dennis Brown and John Holt is one of the best reggae duets. Please consider singing it with Toots Hibbert or Snoop Lion, as both sound great singing with you.
Thank you.

Russian Red: Everyday Everynight

Dear Willie Nelson,
Russian Red is the stage name of Spanish singer-songwriter Lourdes Hernandez. I think her song Everyday Everynight would lend itself well to your phrasing and vocal style.
Thank you.

Lou Reed: Perfect Day

Dear Willie Nelson,
Please play Perfect Day by Lou Reed. It is a beautiful song with lots of room for Bobbie's piano work and Mickey's harmonica. I think it would sound great with your vocals. Your cover of Perfect Day is certain to be a classic.
Thank you.

Muddy Waters: Champagne & Reefer

Dear Willie Nelson,
Please play Muddy Waters' Champagne & Reefer. You always do a great job playing blues, and you have a well known penchant for reefer. Champagne and Reefer is a well written blues song about choosing to smoke grass over drinking alcohol. You would certainly be able to arrange a great version with your band.
Thank you.

Ramones: Questioningly

Dear Willie Nelson,
Please play a Ramones song. While it may seem odd at first that I am suggesting you cover a punk rock band, if you really listen to their songs, many of them or well written pop songs, albeit done in a rather brash style. I would suggest Questioningly, from their fourth album Road To Ruin. It is a great story about long lost love with a great melody.
Thank You.

Peter Tosh: Till Your Well Runs Dry

Dear Willie Nelson,
Please cover a Peter Tosh song. Your interest in reggae is well known, as is your interest in ganja. You have played songs by both Toots Hibbert and Jimmy Cliff,  it would seem Peter Tosh would be a perfect fit. I think Till Your Well Runs Dry would be a great choice. It is well written and has a great melody. Your signature guitar and vocal styles would mesh well with this song.
Thank you.

Jimi Hendrix: Angel

Dear Willie Nelson,
Please play Jimi Hendrix's Angel. You and Jimi share an improvisational approach to the guitar and although you both play in somewhat different genres, I hear a lot of similarities. There are plenty of Jimi Hendrix songs that would sound great performed by you, but I think Angel would work out well.
Thank you.
